 L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
I just bought a trio of L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus from Aquabid. There appears to be a few showing up at the present time as The Fish Place in North Tonawanda had a few but they were half the size of the ones that I bought and not in as good condition. Hopefully in the future I will be blessed with a spawning. They are quite similar to the L-183 only the white spots are bigger and brighter.

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
Hello, I've been trying to compare these to other species and L184 pics since they first started showing up. Mine are still recuperating, and have another group coming tomorrow, but plan on posting pics as soon as they look reasonable enough. Have you compared yours, or have decent pics to help validate the species? Too often initial import problems, especially when a lot of people are setting up with intent to breed and redistribute, cause future problems in defining a species. Barbie has pics of hers, which I'm now fairly certain are L184 , here: http://www.plecos.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=2 Probably the best ID shots I've found on any site. Larry

TTA, I got pics of mine up, sorry I'm proud of their color, in the thread below. I'm highly impressed with what they looked like after settling a bit. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=122Larry

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
A florida wholesaler had a couple tanks brimming full with these fishes, I have some images somewhere, I'll have to go digging for them. I know of atleast one shop that purchased a boxfull up in Oregon so more should be trickling down through the system.

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
The problem is, the ones that came in this time appear to be L289, not L184. I too purchased a good number of them. At least I'll be able to show comparative shots of them. The spots are smaller than my L184 fry of the same size as the new fish. I wish I had time to put some side by side for pics. I'll add that to my list . I'm hoping my schedule slows down a little bit now. I have two major projects left to do at the store, then I'm almost caught up! (til something new gets added, yes, hehe)

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
I think that you are probably right Barbie. The fish I bought from Snookum21 on aquabid as L-184 are probably the L-289. I also picked up a smaller 2 at The Fish Place in North Tonawonda at the same time and they also called them L-184. They do have lots of spots and look identical to the picture in the L number book. It's too soon to crow just yet but I have a male now sitting on eggs. These fish must be kind of rare as Planet Catfish does not even have a picture of them on their site.

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
As far as I know, I was the only one that owned them in the US until last year. It's funny that there are no pics of them though, as Jools has a bunch of my fry growing out in one of his tanks .

 Re: L-184 Brilliant Ancistrus
What are they? L-184 or L-289. Some that are nearly the same has come into a local store as L-213 to make things more confusing.
